Washington State Ferries System Electrification
WSDOT
Project Description
WSF is undertaking an ambitious initiative to move toward a “greener’’ ferry fleet with the twin goals of reducing global greenhouse gases and improving local air quality. Over a twenty-year period, the agency will convert six ferries from diesel to hybrid electric; build 16 new hybrid electric ferries; and complete improvements to add medium voltage electricity at 16 terminals. The program will develop the infrastructure by installing shore-side service improvements supporting medium-voltage charging stations at each terminal.
Key elements to support the charging system include bringing power to the terminal, construction of conduits, vaults, power and marine submerged cables, service connections, transformers, switchgear, energy storage systems, and other supporting equipment at terminal. The projects are partially funded by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
JTS provided Document Control, Scheduling, and Project Controls Services.
